Introduction to SMART Response
What is SMART Response and how do I use it? If you have ever asked yourself this question, ask no more! This session is designed to familiarize users with the Smart Response PE clickers and administering formative and summative assessments. We will learn to create, deliver, and evaluate different types of assessments. I will also help participants understand how to evaluate the formal and informal assessment data collected to identify student strengths and weaknesses. You will also have the chance to experience the Smart Response PE clickers first hand. The strategies presented can be used in any elementary, middle, or high school classroom. This presentation will touch on several Common Core standards in math and language arts spanning many grade levels.

Introduction to SMART Notebook
SMART Boards easily keep students engaged and ready to learn. The SMART Board can be used as a whole group teaching tool but is also great for setting up small group or independent activities to reinforce skills. Two years ago our school was renovated and fully stocked with the newest educational technology. I was thrilled BUT the panic quickly set in among many other staff members. This presentation was made to familiarize staff with the basics of the SMART Board and Notebook software. If you have ever wondered what all the icons were or, how to get the most out of your SMART Board, this session is for you. By the time you leave you will not only understand the basic software capabilities but you will be ready to teach others the tricks you have learned. The strategies presented can be used in any elementary, middle, or high school classroom. This presentation will touch on several Common Core standards in math and language arts spanning many grade levels.

Build your own SMART Notebook Lesson
Now that you know how to successfully use the basic features of the SMART Board, I will help you create engaging, rigorous lessons using the Notebook gallery essentials and Lesson Activity tool kit. You will learn to make your own page themes, apply animation, explore the capture tool, link websites and other documents within your presentation, and much more! The strategies presented can be used in any elementary, middle, or high school classroom. This presentation will touch on several Common Core standards in math and language arts spanning many grade levels.

A Little About Me…
I am originally for Syracuse, NY but have lived in Maryland for the last 10 years. I have a husband but no children, unless you count my three year old Golden Retriever-Bella. I received my Masters in Elementary Education from Towson and have been teaching for four years. I teach 5th grade at Overlook Elementary School. While interning at Park Elementary, I fell in love with technology and the advantages it has within the classroom. I spent hours after school between graduate classes just exploring anything the school had. I became quite skilled in using both the SMART Board and Smart Response clickers (then called Senteos). I teamed up with a fellow colleague, Ken Barsa, and presented information about the SMART Boards to Baltimore County teachers four years ago at Towson University. Since then, each year I conduct a similar professional development seminar for the Towson University Graduate students.

Four years ago I was hired to a school that was undergoing renovations and receiving an extensive amount of technology. This was a dream come true for a self-proclaimed “techie” like myself. Most of what I have learned has been through self discovery or learning from others around me. Surprisingly enough, I have little formal training but instead have capitalized on every opportunity that has come my way to learn and discover more! In the last two years I have been chosen to lead the technology professional development opportunities at my school. In addition, I am the E-coach at Overlook as well. I plan to further my education with technology in the classroom over the next few years. In the meantime, I am thrilled to present some of the wonderful things I incorporate into my classroom on a daily basis at the SMART Users Conference this week!

Following the conference, please feel free to e-mail me any questions or comments at khebbel@aacps.org . I will be posting all presentations to this page as well.
